Fabulous Room Friday 02.26.10

{Violán and his dog, Bosco share a moment on a chair of his own design.The gorgeous turquoise anemone lamps from Holland are to die for! The chandeliers are by Paco Rabanne.}

Today’s fabulous room is the amazing living room (part of a larger studio space) of the visionary Spanish designer, Lázaro Rosa Violán of Barcelona. In keeping with Violán’s design aesthetic, the space is eclectic, filled with vintage finds and striking modern touches. The live/work building was once a cotton factory and now serves as Violán’s home and studio for his design business. As if the amazing architecture weren’t enough, Violán makes the space all the more fabulous with an eclectic mix of furniture and accessories. I love the touches of turquoise and coral as well as the touch of glamour provided by gold accents.

{The white leather Chesterfield sofa was designed by Violán and is produced by his company, Contemporain Studio. The fabulous armchair was originally created for one of his projects, the Hotel Pulitzer in Rome.}

We are beyond excited to stay at the Violán-designed Hotel Pulitzer in Barcelona this summer. It will be such a treat to see this amazing designer’s work in person.

Perfect Match: Elle Décor meets Amanda Wakeley Fall 2010

  elle title

elle1 {Left:Tufted Sofa and Cowhide Rug from Anne Coyle. How fabulous is the 1960s lucite and brass coffee table? I love that various styles of chairs were chosen for this room. Right: A Gorgeous Goddess Gown by Wakely in a Stunning Color}

 Amanda Wakeley’s Fall 2010 collection was among my favorites from London Fashion Week. I love the flowy, metallic fabrics, feminine silhouettes, and minimal color palette. The collection is completely luxurious and glamorous while maintaining a somewhat understated elegant quality. Wakeley’s collection evoked the same feelings in me as the amazing Chicago home of Oprah Producer, Elle Rakieten which was designed by BOTH Nate Berkus and Anne Coyle (she and Elle are BFFs) and is featured in the March issue of ELLE DECOR. Can you say dream team? Both this gorgeous apartment which is housed in a 1920s Beaux-Arts building and Wakeley’s glamorous collection speak to the modern woman. They are elegant, chic, and modern all at once.

elle description elle2 {Left: A Chic Little Number by Wakeley Right: The living room is filled with beautiful European antiques and vintage pieces such as the Louis Philippe Mirror circa 1840 and the vintage white Italian armchair.}

{Left: Rakieten’s library might just be my favorite room at the moment! I love the dark walls painted in Farrow & Ball’s Off Black and the colorful accents like the Madeline Weinrib ikat pillow. The collection of artwork is fabulous! Right: I could picture myself wearing this dress for so many things. I love the fit, the gorgeous, shimmery quality of the fabric, and how great it looks paired with tights and an edgy shoe. }

elle4

{Left: This head-to-toe black outfit works would transition beautifully from day to night. Love it!  Right: I can’t think of a single woman who wouldn’t love to have this swoon-worthy dressing room. It is INSANE! I adore the vintage ostrich egg lamps. The vintage Bagues chandelier and Poillerat-style table from JF Chen are pretty darn beautiful, too.}

elle6

{Left: I would love to have this work space! I can picture myself constantly changing up the huge inspiration board. The lighting fixture is gorgeous and of course, I love the vintage Chippendale chairs. Right: The all-over use of this shimmery, metallic fabric isn’t for the faint at heart, but looks fierce if you can pull off the look. The cape lends some sophistication to the ensemble.}

Moroccan Moment

image

{Image Credit: JuBella}

It seems like Moroccan style has been having a major moment in the spotlight lately. From dominating the runways a few seasons ago to being a hugely popular inspiration for home interiors, Moroccan style doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. It’s even making an appearance in the Sex and the City sequel!

Perhaps the appeal stems from the fact that Morocco is a place of great beauty and mystery. Everything that comes from there is considered exotic and novel to most of us. It is a place filled with color and inspiring architecture.

{La Mamounia Hotel}

…gorgeous buildings abound!

{How gorgeous does Gwyneth look?}

Gwyneth Paltrow was also present at the reopening event and recently dedicated an issue of her GOOP newsletter to Marakkesh.

There are many ways to incorporate a Moroccan influence into your life. There are many touches that you use to add a Moroccan influence to your home. Moroccan lanterns, vintage brass coffee/ smoking tables, antique tea services, and lavish textiles are a great place to start.

Plutocracy

I am loving the 1940’s inspired looks and strong, no holds barred attitude in this promotional video for the new Plutocracy line by designer Anitra Michelle. “Inspired by the woman's empowerment movement during the 1940's when war forced housewives to hang up their aprons and enter the male dominated workforce, Rising Revolt represents the modern Corporate Rebel. The woman who knows she can look sexy and professional at the same time. The woman who refuses to blend in with the suits she is surrounded by. The woman who won't take no for an answer and wears the clothes that show she means it.” Rock on, ladies!

Raising the Bar

{Sally used the nightstands in her office at home.}

Fabian and I recently bought a regency dresser along with two matching nightstands from the fabulous, Sally Wheat! They totally have that Pieces look, don’t they? Fabian is currently working on them in the garage, but once we get the console inside, I am planning to use it as a buffet. I’d like to use part of the space on top for a  little bar set-up and have collected images of chic bars for years. I keep getting deterred from doing a bar post because so many others have done it, but oh well. I could use the inspiration right now for my gorgeous new buffet!

cheers

bar julie shelter Last week, the talented Julie of Shelter posted pictures of her amazing, swoon-worthy house on her blog. It is seriously gorgeous and I think I might be in love with her office. However, I thought this little vignette in her dining room was pretty darn fabulous, too!
